Lady GaGa – Alejandro – One more video clip to attract attention through the media or a video with a Hidden Meaning?

The music video for Lady GaGa's hit single Alejandro seems to have caused public outcry because of its use of religious imagery along with Erotic and Nazism suggestions. The media have blasted GaGa because of this controversial yet revolutionary video, but can much deeper meanings be found behind exactly what appears to be blasphemy?

Through the eyes of the atheist the video clip can seem to have another and deeper significance compared to the one that is viewed at first. Lady GaGa is renowned for her creativeness, therefore Alejandro can be viewed as yet another outlet for this creativity and should be viewed with a balanced view.

The use of the rosary beads, crosses and also the latex nun wardrobe can be viewed as an acceptance of religion rather than an attempt to criticise it.

The scene where Lady GaGa is seen swallowing rosary beads may symbolise an ingestion of religion, her taking religion upon herself as well as accepting it as being a force of light to help conquer all of her fears. Therefore, showing that she wants to become accepted by the church, and also to save herself from just what she was previously. The scene in which she is on the bed with the homosexual military men represents her older sinful self, then after the swallowing of the beads and also putting on the nun's clothing she is a whole new person and accepted by the church.

However, a different view or meaning would be that the rosary beads and the ingesting of them is a metaphor for how religion could be pressured on people. Religion represents an additional way in which people are criticised, especially homosexual people. This idea begins the moment the video starts with the funeral of Alejandro, it links to the concept that he was homosexual and murdered with this. The military style within the video clip may be viewed as the crystal clear link to homosexuals, since in the united states you are not permitted inside the military if you are gay. This once again shows exactly how people are judged in the military and religion.

All of this links into 2 meanings behind the representation of religion, depending on how we see the full video clip overall. In one sense, GaGa is recognizing religion with regard to her life. In the other, GaGa is representing the way in which religion can easily cause people to be hurt, the way in which religion judges individuals and so they cannot entirely be them selves for this reason. In either case, Lady GaGa is equally praised and criticised on her work but still continues to be a creative force.
