Poker Face Lyrics and Lady Gaga's Poker Faced Success

"Poker Face" lyrics were written by Lady Gaga (Stefani Germanotta) as well as Nadir Khayat and produced by RedOne. This is the song that put Lady Gaga on the map and entered the American zeitgeistso much so that the song was parodied by Eric Cartman on South Park. (That's when you know you've made it!) Poker Face was on Lady Gaga's debut album, "The Fame", which was released in 2008.

This is an up-tempo dance song written in G# minor but was a departure from her earlier performance in "Just Dance" because of its darker tones and suggestive themes. Most critics gave the single good reviews for its hypnotic notes and its robotic, techno-approach to chorus lines. The Poker Face lyrics also received some positive reviews. The Times stated that Poker Face was one of the "finest moments of the album," and liked Gaga's theme of love as a card game. Billboard states Gaga's creative mix of musical styles comes from 80s synthesizers, sunny hooks and robotic verses, all of which make for an "addictive" song. The song also received Grammy award nominations and three wins.

The song topped the charts in over 20 countries and continues to be the most downloaded song in British chart history. It has sold nearly ten million copies. Lady Gaga still performs Poker Face and most recently stopped by American Idol to give a live rendition, as well as the Fame Ball and Monster Ball tours. She has played the electronic version of the song as well as an acoustic version with piano. Rolling Stone liked it so much they ranked it number #96 on the "100 Best Songs of the 2000s."

Poker Face lyrics center on the game of love, and start tongue-in-cheek with verses like "I wanna hold em like they do in Texas please" and "After he's hooked I'll play the one that's on his heart." She also drops references to strip poker, Russian roulette, gambling and of course, "bluffin' with my muffin." Of course the Poker Face lyrics are secondary to the tune and Gaga's eccentric personality; this is a song that has multiple choruses of "Mum mum mum mah."

The song is so popular it is even a downloadable song of the game Rock Bandthat is both the Cartman-sung version and the original Gaga-tastic single. Why not listen to Poker Face right now? Just don't let her see you sweat.
