Summer Concerts Set: Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, U2, Jimmy Buffett Among Top Draws
Summer is a perfect time to enjoy a concert. Some concert seasons are better than others and so far the 2011 summer concert set includes a little something for everyone. Jimmy Buffett and the Dave Matthews Band are among the usual suspects back on the road again this summer.
Adding to the mix are the Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, U2, Lady Gaga, the Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers. A few pop icons will be touting some of their biggest hits. Two of the biggest boy bands of the past few decades will join forces. Fans of classic rock, country, rap, hip hop and pop will have plenty to choose from this summer.
Britney Spears kicks off her Femme Fatale Tour on June 17th in Sacramento, CA at Power Balance Pavilion with scheduled dates up to August 13th in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at Air Canada Centre. Nicki Minaj, Jessie and the Toy Boys and Nervo will join the "Til the World Ends" singer on sixth concert tour.
Janet Jackson's upcoming tour is truly all about the fans. In fact, the 35 cities, one for each of her chart topping songs, for her Number Ones: Up Close and personal Tour were selected by fans. Following initial dates in France and England, Jackson kicks off the North American leg of her tour at Montreal's Bell Centre on August 1st.
New Kids on the Block and Back Street Boys are two of the biggest boy bands of the past few decades and they are teaming up as NKOTBSB for a new album and tour kicking off on June 9th at Air Canada Center in Toronto, Canada. Dates are currently scheduled through August 7th with singer Matthew Morrison recently added as a supporting act.
U2 continues with their 360 Tour in efforts to span the globe with a tour that started in support of the Irish rockers' 2009 No Line on the Horizon album. Summer dates include stops in Denver, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Oakland, Baltimore, Nashville, Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Minneapolis before wrapping up on July 30th in Moncton, Canada at the Magnetic Hill Concert Site.
Kid Rock continues with his Born Free Tour through September 3rd at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Spring, Texas. Kid Rock will bring his Twisted Brown Trucker Band and a unique blend of rock and country along with special guest Sheryl Crow to several cities this summer. Current dates include stops in Atlantic City, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Burgettstown, PA (near Pittsburgh), Hartford, Boston, San Diego and Phoenix.
Bon Jovi continues with their Circle Tour into early summer with dates in Houston, Memphis and Milwaukee with the final North American date in St. Louis on May 22nd. The tour wraps up June 22nd in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Brad Paisley has a full summer of dates scheduled for his H2O II: Wetter and Wilder World Tour with featured artists including Darius Rucker, Blake Shelton, Jerrod Niemann, Sunny Sweeney, Brent Anderson and Edens Edge starting on June 3rd in Virginia Beach, VA at Farm Bureau Live at Virginia Beach (formerly known as the Virginia Beach Amphitheatre). The tour continues with dates in Hartford, Cleveland and St. Louis before wrapping up on September 25th at Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek in Raleigh, NC.
Jimmy Buffett proves that mellow rock is always in vogue with dates scheduled through October 22nd in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand. Buffett started getting "parrot-heads" ready for summer in April and continues the fun with summer dates including stops in Atlanta, Virgina Beach, Pittsburgh, Nashville, Detroit and Chicago plus dates in Canada.
Lady Gaga has acknowledged that she is planning a new tour, but has not yet set any dates. The always entertaining singer has said that her next tour will be more "evolution than reinvention" and has said she is considering called it the Born This Way Ball: The Third Installation of the Monster Ball. Tour dates have not been announced yet.
Still haven't found what you're looking for? Classic rock fans can catch Santana, James Taylor, Stevie Nicks and Rush on tour this summer. Alternative rock fans are sure to enjoy Alice in Chains, The Killers and long-time college favorites REM. Metallica currently has 9 scheduled dates for the summer, including appearances at some popular music festivals. The only scheduled North American date so far is September 14th at Yankee Stadium in The Bronx, New York.
